My Favorite Things

Hokay, I guess it’s only fair that I share what MY favorite things are with you guys! I’m not gonna lie — this was a tough assignment (so props to all the guest bloggers!). For me, I like to live by the rule that you should always surround yourself with things you love, so narrowing my stuff down to just a few things to feature was no easy task.

Here’s what I came up with though:

This is the one of the first pieces of furniture Joe and I bought for our new apartment when we moved last year. It’s the Parlour chair from CB2. Mid-century in its lines, I adore the punchy red-orange color of the chair (and the fabric also has a really interesting texture too). This is the statement piece of our living room, for sure. And, if we ever get sick of the color, it’ll be simple to have reupholstered.

I love having vignettes around the house that feature treasured items. This one is in my office. The yellow framed picture is of my parents. My father passed away when I was young, and this is one of the last photos of my mother and father together. The smaller inset photo is of my father when he was a little boy. I also am a huge fan of stacking books — here’s a bunch I’ve recently acquired! This vignette is also one of my faves in the house because it has my hourglass and a foo dog I found at Home Goods last summer. Can you tell I am in the midst of a love affair with the color orange?

This is a jewelry box my mother got for me when I was maybe 12 or 13. She had a co-worker who was traveling to India, and asked him to bring me back something special. At the time, I was a brat and couldn’t appreciate this box for its beauty, but now I love it because a) the wood carving on it is gorgeous and b) it always reminds me that wherever I am, my momma is thinking of me!

I have a fourth item too:

directoire side table

I’m still OBSESSED with this table I found at the flea market earlier this month. I bought some brass polish today and now that the traveling craziness is over for the month of February, I’ll finally have some time to spiff it up this weekend!

This post got me thinking. I really need to put together a tour of my home. But first, it needs to be cleaned. Which is what I’m headed off to do right. now.
