Things I tried on at the Crew that you maybe shouldn’t buy

On Sunday, Joe and I were out and about when I decided to pop into J.Crew, looking to try on a particular swimsuit I’ve been eyeing in their catalog. I was bummed to learn that the store I visited wouldn’t be carrying swimwear this summer, but it wasn’t all bad — I was still in a J.Crew! I took the opportunity to browse the sale rack and lots of the new items they’ve gotten in for early summer. But get this…I was pretty disappointed with the fit of many of the items!

I realize that the way these posts are supposed to go is that I’m SUPPOSED to take dressing room pics with my phone to show you guys exactly what I mean when I say things like “this shirt made me look pregnant” or “I felt like I was wearing a potato sack” (although, come to think of it, both those descriptions are pretty self-explanatory). But in any case, I thought I’d put together a list of items I tried on and sadly, left without, in case you were thinking of ordering any of these online.

And conclusion slash question: Does anyone else feel like J.Crew had a few years where the sizing was really weird, then it got better, and now it’s all off again?

{Image Credits (in case you still can’t resist and want to check out these items for yourself: Stripe Tee, Tissue Ikat Tank, Twill Utility Vest, Katie Eyelet Cami, Linen Tessa Top, Drift Dress, Crisscross Dress}

  1. First off, *luv* what you got, especially in navy! I’m totally obsessed with the navy/coral combo…and second, BUMMER! I hate that! And I will second the motion that their fit on some things is just off and I don’t know why! C’mon, J Crew, we want your fabulousness…give it to us!!!

  2. Someone else from another blog I read was complaining about the sizing of J Crew’s new line. It wasn’t just you!!

  3. Ugh… isn’t that the worst?? I hate when I am SO excited when I finally get my hands of a piece of clothing I have been coveting arrives and I absolutely hate the way I fit in it. I feel like I have had a lot of that lately with J Crew too! Not just you!

  4. Inside information: if something isn’t marked down in the store, but it is online, you get right on one of those red phones and have them verify the price with an in-store associate. They’ll honor it! *Source: Myself, a former associate* :)

  5. Good advice from Katie… *coming from another former associate :)

  6. Loved this post. This is why I hate shopping online. I realize this makes me a grandma. But most things don’t fit right and then I’m too lazy to return them.

    Love the dress you got and the little vest. Though honestly, vests confuse me. I never know the right weather to wear them.
